WALL STREET JOURNAL REPORTER WINS LCAA AWARD

ALBANY, N.Y. – Jimmy Vielkind, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, has won the Walter T. Brown Legislative Correspondents Alumni Association (LCAA) 2021 Award for excellence in coverage of New York state government and politics.

Vielkind had previously won the award in 2015 while working for POLITICO New York, then known as Capital New York. He also worked for the New York Observer and the Albany Times Union before joining the Wall Street Journal in 2018. He lives with his wife and two daughters in the Albany suburb of Delmar.

“The past year has presented unprecedented challenges to news gathering,” said newly elected LCAA president Cathy Woodruff.

“Albany reporters performed a true public service in the diligence with which they covered the pandemic, allegations of gubernatorial misconduct and a contentious relationship with the federal government, plus the usual fare of state government and politics. It is a special tribute to Jimmy that his work stood out in this exceptionally strong field of award entrants for its breadth and its insight,” Woodruff said.

The LCAA Award is judged by a panel of former state Capitol reporters. It carries a $500 prize and the winner’s name is inscribed on a plaque on permanent display in the Legislative Correspondents Room on the third floor of the State Capitol. The award has been presented annually since 1947.
