NYC COUNCIL TRANSPORTATION CHAIRMAN RODRIGUEZ'S STATEMENT ON AGREEMENT FOR FUNDING OF MTA CAPITAL PROGRAM

This is a moment to celebrate. I applaud Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo for their hard work and efforts in ensuring that both the City and State contribute funding that ensures the stability and continued improvement of the MTA system. Today's agreement will prevent future funding raids and diversions and allow the City more control of how capital funding is spent. The capital plan will fund critical needs projects throughout our transit system to ensure New Yorkers can enjoy a safer and more efficient commute.

Statement from Kathryn Wylde, President and CEO of the Partnership for New York City, on MTA Funding Agreement

“The Governor and Mayor have negotiated a prudent funding package for the MTA capital program that the business community strongly supports. Importantly, the Governor’s directive to the MTA to achieve efficiency and cost savings through the use of public-private partnerships and design-build procurement methods is a breakthrough in the authority’s traditional approach to project delivery. We look forward to supporting the MTA’s implementation of a capital program that uses industry expertise and resources to ensure that the metropolitan region has the best mass transit system in the world.”
